BFM #68 - Hare down, on in…

Posted on June 9, 2005

9 June 2005: Thursday again, and the Mob returned to one of our more welcoming haunts, Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar on Passyunk Avenue, a mere stone’s throw from the best cheese steaks on the planet. I arrived early (as I usually do) and chatted up the bartender a bit. He was thrilled to see our club again, and in fact suggested that we call in advance sometime so he could set up something special for us. Waugh! Is that ever refreshing to hear. Anyway, showing tonight were Skin Fiddle, Mary F–king Poppins, Lil Red Riding Wood out of school for the summer, Hold the Sausage (sans Love Machine, still) back with just Sarah, Nut Cruncher, Dyke Queen, Can you Hear Me Now?, just Todd, LF Winkie, and our boot du jour, just Pete from Plymouth Meeting. Also gracing the Mob with his presence was C–t’mo, taking a break from the Beerly Departed page and his home hash away from home, Least Worst. Eventually, Rash showed up and chewed down the Lucky Straw, which went to ‘Hear Me Now very early in the draw.

CYHMNow set off to lay trail, eschewing the bag with the chalk and hare-balls, preferring to lay trail the ol’ fashioned way. And so he did, up alleyways and down residential one-way streets, checking about every two blocks. Trail led us east to about 6th Street, as far north as Rodman and as far west as Broad before heading southward back to the bar. true trail Trail was not too hard to find, with plenty of small spatter between marks. Around two miles into the trail, ‘true trail’ arrows appeared and directed the pack to intersect with the outgoing trail. As it so happened, Mary F–king Poppins, who had been making a good showing as FRB this evening, given the absence of our usual greyhounds, had "caught" our hare on trail at 10th and Wharton. Bagging the hare was easier than one would otherwise think; seems that CYHMNow had run out of mark at that point and surrendered to the next hound up. However, since there was no more mark, we had no option but to go on in from that point. C–t’mo provided the chalk necessary to mark the on-in, and on in we went.

Ray’s is a good place to run out of, but they are definitely understocked for pitchers. Tonight’s sacrament was served in plastic ice buckets as well as the three or four pitchers that they do have on hand. However, the price is definitely right, and we had plenty of beer after the circle to coast us into the evening. Lunar Digit showed up just in time to make the circle, and fell in as the hare’s trail was celebrated for being suitably s–tty if not abruptly terminated. Mr Poppins got his pint for first in, a Mob first for him, and justs Todd and Sarah got their pints for last in, more or less together. C–t’mo was on deck for a Long Time No See toast, and then accusations were called.

Though the Mob was generally well-behaved this evening (for a change), our hare was roasted for alcohol abuse, but to be fair, it is rather difficult to pour beer out of an ice bucket and not get some on the floor. Lunar Digit was in the dock for autohashing as usual. Other accusations were made but found to be meritless and dismissed.

Announcements are as follows:

And the hash went in peace.

Recklessly quoted out of context:
After this run, I am just soaking wet.
shamelessly attributed to LR Riding Wood
