Welcome welcome welcome!
The Ben Franklin Mob Hash House Harriers (BFMH3) is a Philadelphia-based chapter of the Hash House Harriers, a drinking club with a running problem which exists literally all over the world. For a quick shot of Hash House Harrier history, go here. We (kinda) run, following a trail marked by one among us (called the hare), every Thursday night somewhere in the City of Philadelphia. Usually we run about an hour to and hour and a half and cover between three and five miles, unless the hare is particularly lazy or over-ambitious. You don't have to be a great runner. The evening generally takes us where it will but the run (almost always) ends at the bar where it began. We begin and end each run at a bar because we like beer. Some of us also like running. Due to the way the trail is laid our lesser runners can stay with the rest of the pack. Don't be shy, some regulars walk half or more of the trail without issue. We’re not competitive about running, though some of us are competitive runners. We’re not competitive about drinking beer either, though many of us are better at that than at running. At the bar we “circle up” for a while, sing bawdy songs, and cause a general ruckus, all in the name of the fight against sobriety and as a way to persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel. You can learn more about us in the About section of the site (duh).
If you like to run and to drink, then come out and join us. Nothing is required except sneakers, an intact liver, and the inability to take yourself too seriously – and $10 for beer. See you Thursday night!

BFM #836 - Starboard Side Tavern (Fishtown)
When:
Thursday, February 20, 2020 7:30a Gather 8:00a Chalk Talk/On Out Where: Starboard Side Tavern 2500 E Norris St Philadelphia, PA 19125 Hash Cash: $10 Hare(s): Knights of the Poundtable |
Pubic Transit Options:
Take the El to Berks Station and then things get complicated because Fishtown is literally off the grid. Cut through Kensington High School for the Creative Arts ((there is a gate that's usually open to a small parking lot and a trail across their campus, if it's closed you go around) to Blair Street. Trail continues left/northeast a half block to Berks Street. Go 5 blocks down Berks til you hit Cedar Street. Solve the check at Cedar Street left/slightly less northeast until you hit E Norris Street and make a right down Norris (against traffic) and your ON IN to the bar in a block...OR take the 89 bus to the bar's doorstep, your call. |
Well, the groundhog (no, not that one) promised us an early spring, but apparently forgot to notify the weather peeps. It's alright though, because we all know the solution to cold weather- beer! And like, heat... but beer is cheaper. See you all on Thursday as we follow Knights of the Poundtable on an adventure around Fishtown and prove to the locals it really is only crazy people that r*n in this weather.
